Rizal who was born in June 19, 1861 was executed by Spainish authorities allegely for leading the revolution. His execution on trumped up sedition charges sparked the revolution of 1896. Rizal in fact, inspired the native population to question the unjustified occupation and governance of Spain. A poet, social critic, and polymath, Rizal left a legacy of works that has become part of the Filipino nation's origin myth. The Philippines is one of the few nations that has a novelist for their national hero. Registration required
